Why stump grinding in Wellington is different
The tree is gone. The stump is still there. And on a Wellington property, a stump is not just an eyesore. It is a hazard for horses and riders. A stump hidden under grass in a paddock or near a bridle trail is a leg injury waiting to happen.
Left to decay, the root system attracts termites that spread to barn timbers and wooden fencing posts. In Wellington’s clay-heavy inland soil, decaying stump roots affect paddock drainage and footing in ways that take years to notice. We grind 8 to 12 inches below grade and apply pest-preventive treatment on every job.

Our stump grinding process
Recent job in North Palm Beach
Ficus stump near paddock fence, Saddle Trail Park
A property owner in Saddle Trail Park had a large ficus stump 12 feet from a wooden paddock fence line. The ficus root system had already sent lateral roots toward the fence posts and the property owner was concerned about termite risk near the barn. We assessed the stump and lateral root spread before grinding. Took the stump to 11 inches below grade and addressed the lateral root mass closest to the fence line. Pest treatment applied. No fence post disturbance.

Frequently asked questions
Answered by our ISA-certified experts.
Yes, when done with proper assessment. We check the proximity of the stump to paddock fencing, footing, and drainage before starting. We position equipment to avoid disturbing paddock surfaces and fence posts. Horses are secured away from the work area before we begin.
We grind 8 to 12 inches below grade. That's deep enough to eliminate regrowth, remove the structural root mass, and cut off the pest habitat. Rental grinders go 4 to 6 inches. Not enough for ficus or hardwood stumps on Wellington properties.
No. Stump grinding does not require a separate permit. If the original tree removal required a Village Tree and Vegetation Removal permit, stump grinding is within the scope of that work. We confirm for every job.
Only without proper assessment. We locate irrigation lines and drainage infrastructure before grinding anything. On equestrian properties with complex layouts, we take extra care and adjust our approach when stumps are close to buried infrastructure.
It depends on stump size, species, root spread, and access. Stumps near paddock fencing or barn structures require more careful positioning. We give you a fair itemized quote after seeing the stump. Free assessment.
